The Sound of Magic (Korean: 안나라수마나라; RR: Annarasumanara) is a 2022 South Korean streaming television series based on the Naver webtoon Annarasumanara[a] by Ha Il-kwon. Directed by Kim Seong-yoon and written by Kim Min-jeong, starring Ji Chang-wook, Choi Sung-eun, and Hwang In-youp.[4] It tells the story of a mysterious magician, Ri Eul suddenly appearing in front of a girl who lost her dream, Yoon Ah-yi and a boy who is forced to dream, Na Il-deung.[5] The series was released on May 6, 2022 exclusively by Netflix.[6]
The Sound of Magic is an emotional music drama that revolves around Yoon Ah-yi, a poor student attending Sewoon High School, who has diminished her belief in magic, which she had a passion for when she was younger. Under many misfortunes, she wishes to grow faster to become an adult, so she can escape the major stressors and debts, which weigh her down. She then meets Ri Eul, an adult magician who wants to remain as a so-called 'child'. Under despise and suspicion from the whole community, he aims to claim he is a real magician, asking whoever he meets \"Do you believe in magic\" After being a frequent visitor of Ri Eul's residence (which is at an eerily, abandoned amusement park), Ah-yi's deskmate Na Il-deung, who is a cold and well off student, starts to eavesdrop on her magic lessons with the magician, soon beginning to show a liking towards her and magic tricks. In all, Ah-yi's life gradually changes as she becomes a follower of Ri Eul, making herself again a believer in magic and further deciding to follow her dreams in earnest.[7]
The series reunited director Kim Seong-yoon and writer Kim Min-jeong who previously worked together in the 2016 drama Love in the Moonlight.[19][20] The series was choreographed by Hong Se-jeong of the musicals Phantom and Laughing Man, while illusionist Lee Eun-gyeol served as the magic advisor. Music director Park Seong-il and lyricist Kim Eana were in charge of the music.[21] Ji Chang-wook practiced magic for three months to play his role.[22]
In December 2020, it was announced that Ji Chang-wook was offered the role of the magician in the series.[23] In the same month, Hwang In-youp was also reported to have been offered the role of Na Il-deung.[24] In February 2021, it was reported that Choi Sung-eun was in talks to appear in the drama as Yoon Ah-yi.[25] In April 2021, Netflix officially announced production as well as casting confirmation with Ji Chang-wook, Choi Sung-eun, and Hwang In-yeop.[26]
Abandoned by her parents because of debt, Yoon Ah Yi supports herself and her younger sister. Despite how busy she is with her part-time job and her studies, Yoon Ah Yi is still one of the top students at the school. All Yoon Ha Yi wishes is to grow up as fast as possible so that she can have a stable job, and when she reveals her dream to the magician Lee Eul, her life is changed forever.
Both Ji Changwook and Hwang Inyeop are the only reason I watched this drama, but Choi Sungeun's performance is sooo wonderful. Her voice, her acting are just amazing. The visuals of Rieul's magic are never disappoint me. Everytime he said 'do you believe in magic' I'm just started crying ㅠㅠ

In the fantasy music drama, Yoon Ah-Yi (Choi Sung-eun) has lost her dreams in the face of reality while Na Il-deung (Hwang In-youp) is under pressure to pursue his dreams. An unexpected yet enchanting story about what it means to become a grown-up unfolds as the two encounter an enigmatic magician, Ri-eul (Ji Chang-wook).
Adapted from the Korean webtoon Annarasumanara, THE SOUND OF MAGIC is six-part teen drama about hardship, love, and believing in magic. Teenager Yoon Ah-yi (Choi Sung-eun) doesn't know where her mother is, her father is hiding from creditors, and she's desperately trying to support her younger sister by herself. Meanwhile, at school she's competing academically with the top student, Na Il-deung (Hwang In-youp), without the necessary resources to prepare her for exams. It's a tough existence, but when Yoon meets a strange young magician named Ri-Eul (Ji Chang-Wook) living in an abandoned amusement park, she finds herself wondering if life can be magical.
The series combines fairy tales, musical numbers, and crime to create a lively but intense teen K-drama. As Yoon Ah-yi navigates her difficult life and a budding romance, Ri-Eul challenges her to hold on to the sense of wonder she once had. The story isn't about remaining innocent, and navigates through some violent plot lines, only some of which lead to happy endings. But The Sound of Magic still manages to send the message that in life it's worth believing in the magical, even if only to help us survive a life that isn't.
After school, Il-Deung is picked up while Ah-Yi starts to put her trust in magic. Unfortunately, this has the knock-on effect of Ha-Na and So-Hee bullying her. Interestingly, the lEtter she places in the letterbox (and saying Annara sumanara after) disappears.
Ah-Yi even gives up learning magic too. Before she leaves though, Ri-Eul hands over a pack of cards. Cards that were used when he first started learning. However, on his white sleeve happens to blood stains, which Ah-Yi points out.
He hurriedly pulls his hand back and hurries inside. Interestingly, just prior to this he speaks about magic and misdirection, which is an interesting and somewhat foreshadowed feel the second half of the series to come.
Meanwhile, Il-Deung heads home and finds herself at logger-heads with his mother, who has all of his magic gear in a garbage bag. Il-Deung is not happy and eventually confronts his mum about the choices that have already been laid out for him. Eventually he slams the door and leaves.
The first six entries, with runtimes ranging from 62 to 77 minutes, were very well received and did a spectacular job telling home audiences the tale of Yun Ai, a high school student struggling financially who has her childhood dream of becoming a magician reignited when an encounter with a mysterious magician at a carnival leads her on a glorious journey.
Netflix's 'The Sound of Magic' is a drama based on a webtoon of the same name serialized in 2010 by webtoon writer Ha Il Kwon. It tells a magical story of a magician living in an abandoned theme park and a disenchanted teenager enduring harsh realities.Meanwhile, IU is set to release her movie 'The Broker' on June 8th. The movie 'The Broker' is a movie depicting the story of people who are involved with the baby box, which is a safe box designed for people who cannot raise children to leave their babies anonymously.
Plot: Ahyi is struggling with her life, trying to take care of herself and her younger sister while her father is hiding from his creditors. One day, she meets a mysterious magician and her whole life starts to change.
I found it sad rather than uplifting. I hated what happened to the bird and I didn’t like his assault on the mean school girl, even though she did behave appallingly. Some of the magic reminded me of Do Min Jun’s special skills in My Love from the Star.
Ah-yi does need a champion. She is pestered at school and harassed by the debt collectors her father ran away from. The only person who looks out for her is her equally smart classmate Na Il-deung, played by Hwang In-hyeop. They both start out being cynical about magic. Ah-yi comes to believe in magic first and that might be because she needs it more.
Sound of Magic is a weirdly wonderful drama in which magic seems both hopeful and menacing. Characters seem kind and then are cruel. Ji Chang-wook makes a shadowy magician, a rumpled seedy Peter Pan, who could just be delusional. He could turn out to be a hero or a villain. Or unable to really help her. Ah-yi has no choice but to find out.
